A LETTER FROM MY PRESIDENT
REMEMBERING YOUR MOMENTS OF EXCELLENCE
It’s easier to remember criticism, even in a sea of compliments. A simple “You look tired today” will often affect us and resonate despite those fleeting, positive moments in our day. When this occurs, remember your moments of excellence. Think of them as tattoos, etched into your skin and worn as a badge. To get you through those rough patches, those criticisms that often put us down.
One tip is to keep a journal. At the end of a long day, take a few minutes to relax and write down your moments of excellence that happened throughout that day, no matter how small. Maybe you successfully led a meeting. Or maybe you ran an extra mile at the gym. Whatever you are most proud of, write it down. If you can’t commit to a journal, you can also keep a little spot in your planner to record your moments. As these moments build up over the days, weeks, months, years, you’ll have a collection, a scrapbook of proud memories to remind yourself of what you’re good at, and the potential you can reach. It’s a place to look back to when you feel especially low. (We all have those days.) It can also motivate you to increase your capacity of excellence. Strive to be greater; there is no cap on greatness!
No matter how confident one may appear, everyone has moments when they doubt their self worth. Constantly reminding yourself of your achievements is an act of self-love. You are being your own friend; you are taking care of yourself. Be the strongest, most confident version of yourself. Look in the mirror and tell yourself, I have accomplished all these things, and I can do more. You will go far.
As for me, I look at this letter sent from The White House by President Barack Obama to remind myself that I’m the immigrant living the wildest American dream!
